Dignity of the Given Life

The Dignity of the Given Life

If you watch the news, you know that our world is currently struggling with a basic question. What is a man? What is a woman? On Tuesday, the Supreme Court heard arguments that showed just how unsettled these definitions have become in our country. It is a tragedy when the most powerful people in the world cannot define the basic reality of what it means to be human.

The Source of Your Identity

We live in a culture that tells us we are self-made. It says we are like break-dancers who clear the floor and invent our own moves without any rules. But the Bible presents a different picture. It describes life as a waltz. You do not make up the steps. You learn the steps that were set long before you were born. When you join the dance, you find beauty and connection. You are not a project you created. You are a person God made.

The Nature of Being a Statue

In the ancient world, a king would place statues of himself across his empire to show who ruled the land. Genesis tells us that we are the King's statues. You are a sacred sign placed in this world to show the invisible God to everyone. This means your body and your biology are not mistakes. They are the artist's signature. Your body is not a prison for your true self. It is a gift to be accepted and honored.

Gardeners Instead of Sculptors

Our world tells us to be sculptors of our own bodies. It tells us to chisel away at our nature until we fit our own feelings. But God calls us to be gardeners. A gardener does not try to turn a rose bush into an oak tree. A gardener sees the design and helps it flourish. When we accept the body God gave us, we stop fighting against ourselves. We find peace by living in the reality that God created.
